photo of poster fair crowdOver the years, the field of engineering education research has been developing in exciting ways. At U-M, the importance of this growing field is being emphasized by offering a Certificate in Engineering Education Research and the hiring of engineering education research (EER) faculty members appointed in traditional engineering departments. Currently, there are four core EER faculty members in engineering (Shanna Daly, Mechanical Engineering; Cindy Finelli, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Aileen Huang-Saad, Biomedical Engineering; and Joi-Lynn Mondisa, Industrial and Operations Engineering) and a fifth core EER faculty member who has a courtesy appointment in engineering (Lisa Lattuca, Higher Education).

In this evolving field, scholars apply the methods of educational and social science research to address a range of issues pertaining to teaching and learning in engineering. The findings can help educators in any field think about effective teaching strategies (both in and beyond the classroom), ways to increase diversity in the field, or broader policy issues, for instance.
