Equity-focused Strategies for Graduate Students Leading a GSI Team

Successful team teaching happens when all instructors are adequately supported, invited to share their perspective and feedback, and treated as valued colleagues. In this interactive synchronous session, we will introduce frameworks for team leadership, discuss the range of power dynamics that structure teaching team interactions at U-M, and reflect upon our own experiences as team leaders and team members. We will provide strategies for cultivating an equity-focused instructional team environment and discuss example scenarios within which these strategies can be effectively used to address concerns that arise.

NOTE: This session is targeted for graduate student instructors who are, or plan to be, part of an instructional team. It will be particularly helpful for those who are currently serving in a departmental Graduate Student Mentor role or in a Lead GSI role for a specific course, as well as those who may pursue such instructional team leadership positions in their future.
