Graduate Student Instructional Consultant Program Call For Applications
2024-2025 CRLT GRADUATE STUDENT INSTRUCTIONAL CONSULTANT (GSIC) PROGRAM - Call for Applications
The application for the 2024-2025 CRLT Graduate Student Instructional Consultant (GSIC) program is now OPEN. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 pm on Friday, March 29, 2024
The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) is recruiting Graduate Student Instructional Consultants (GSICs) for Fall 2024-Winter 2025.
Eligibility to apply: We are seeking applications from graduate students across campus who will have had at least 2 semesters of GSI teaching experience by Fall 2024. Graduate students must also be enrolled during the Fall â24 semester to be eligible for the GSIC position.
Desired Qualifications: Successful candidates are those who demonstrate commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching, and who strive to cultivate equity-focused teaching environments in which all students and instructors can succeed.
What is the GSIC Program? GSICs expand CRLTâs reach by consulting with peers (GSIs) across the U-M community, and in doing so, they gain practical experience in the field of educational development. We expect and support our GSICs to work effectively in settings of social and intellectual diversity and have familiarity with equity-focused teaching practices. GSICs receive initial and ongoing training by CRLT to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Consult with GSIs to advance strategies for equity-focused teaching across the university
- Consult with GSIs on a variety of teaching related topics (syllabus design, active learning, design of group work and in-class activities, etc.)
- Consult with GSIs about feedback they receive from students
- Provide feedback to GSIs and graduate students on their teaching philosophy statements
- Conduct classroom observations and midterm student feedback sessions, and debrief this feedback with GSIs
- Engage in training and professional development with other GSICs in a collaborative community of practice
The GSIC group will consist of approximately 20-25 graduate student consultants from a variety of disciplines across U-M. GSICs are currently compensated at $29.00 per hour. The scheduling of hours is fairly flexible based on the availability of the GSICs and the needs of the Center. We estimate that each GSIC works 2-5 hours per week during the academic year.
To apply, please fill out the application form here. Before you begin to fill out the form, preview the application (the preview link is also available when you click on the application link). Deadline for applications is Friday, March 29 at 5:00pm. Candidates will be selected for interviews to take place (remotely via Zoom) during the month of April. Hiring decisions will be communicated by May 3 at the latest.
As part of the application, you will be asked to upload a C.V. or resume, including a list of courses taught. For additional information, see the Graduate Student Instructional Consultants (GSICs) Program webpage.
