Teaching for Inclusion and Equity *SESSION IS FULL*

Due to a large number of registrants, we have added a second workshop on Thursday, October 24th. To register for the October 24th workshop, follow the link below.

October 24th 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Teaching for Inclusion and Equity

Research shows that student learning is enhanced when instructors put thought and action into creating environments that are inclusive of students across a range of backgrounds and identities. How can instructors deliberately cultivate learning environments where all students feel valued, respected, and supported in their learning?  This interactive session will provide structured opportunities for instructors to:

  • Reflect on your own goals and practices related to inclusion and equity in your teaching

  • Engage with some key research-based inclusive teaching principles to consider how they might apply to your teaching context

  • Exchange ideas with colleagues in many disciplines about teaching practices in order to support the deliberate cultivation of inclusive learning environments at UM.

Each semester, we offer this foundational session as well as workshops on specialized topics in inclusive teaching. This session will be especially useful for faculty and GSIs who are relatively new to thinking deliberately about inclusive teaching practice, though anyone is welcome to attend. This workshop is designed for faculty and GSIs in any discipline.
