Have your cake and eat it too! Assessment approaches for simultaneously promoting and measuring student learning in your course

How can instructors create learner-centered opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge and skills? In this 5-day asynchronous workshop, instructors review and reflect upon their current course assignments and exams, and explore alternative approaches for students to demonstrate learning. We will examine why different approaches to assessment might be beneficial for student learning and discuss various options for instructors to consider. We will also think through some principles of inclusive assessment practices to foster equitable learning experiences. There will be an optional one-hour synchronous session on Thursday March 4, 4:00-5:00 pm EST, for those enrolled in the workshop. At the end of the workshop, instructors will have been introduced to various kinds of student learning assessments and how they might utilize these approaches in their courses to simultaneously promote and measure student learning.
