What's Culture Got To Do With It?: The Role of Faculty in Engineering Equity

Engineering is frequently taught without considering students’ cultural realities, which can limit their ability to make connections to engineering content and their lived experiences. But before we can leverage students’ cultural knowledge in the classroom, we must know how our own cultural identity influences our instructional practices. Culturally Relevant Pedagogy promotes academic success, cultural competence, and sociopolitical consciousness. This interactive workshop will help participants understand how culture influences engineering teaching and learning.

This seminar will be held in the General Motors Conference Room, on the fourth floor of the Lurie Engineering Center (1221 Beal Avenue on North Campus).
