Workshop goals
In this online workshop, you will learn about evidence-based practices for designing effective tests and exams. Specifically, you will:

• reflect upon the goals of exams in relation to other assessment tools
• practice writing effective questions based on evidence-based principles of valid and reliable test design
• gain strategies for building a complete exam from individual questions and grading that exam fairly and efficiently
• learn how best to use exams to support the learning of all of your students (based in research about inclusive teaching)
• exchange ideas with other participants about how to implement the principles of effective exam design offered in the workshop.

Workshop format
Participants will:

• Engage with information and ideas about effective exam design through a variety of materials, including websites, videos, and readings, and opportunities to practice and reflect throughout the workshop. (This should take about 60 minutes total.)
• Write a reflective response to the strategies you learned about. (Suggested length: 400-800 words)
• Read and comment on at least two responses written by other participants. These comments will respond to questions raised in those peers’ written reflections.
• Complete an online survey about your experience as a participant.

It should take about 120 minutes to complete all of the activities.

• Steps 1 and 2 (read and view workshop content and post your reflection) must be completed between Monday, 11/20 and Sunday, 11/26.
• Step 3 (read other’s reflection and comment on them) must be completed between Monday, 11/27 and Thursday, 11/30. 
• Step 4  (complete the survey) must be completed between Thursday, 11/30 and Monday, 12/4.
