Overview of the Project:

The goal of this project is to incorporate film as part of mixed multimedia learning strategies for
students in U-M Anatomy curricula (ANAT 403; M1 Foundations of Gross Anatomy; D1 Head &
Neck Gross Anatomy; etc.) and for non-U-M students who also use U-M anatomical resources.
Incorporating micro-documentary style with parsimonious learning objectives, we will develop
and produce films which educate and serve as a useful conduit to inspire continuous learning
for students in the study of anatomy. Film provides a link of engagement at a lower cognitive
load for students in ways that text-based and other visual-based multimedia are unable. Our
goal with process creation will be to create a means by which project films may be developed
and produced by various groups of students, faculty, and clinicians. These films will be
curricularly-incorporated into existing U-M Anatomy courses and publicly available by
incorporation into our existing web resources.

Project Objectives:

The main objective of this project was to incorporate film as part of mixed multimedia learning strategies for students in U-M Anatomy curricula (ANAT 403; M1 Foundations of Gross Anatomy; D1 Head & Neck Gross Anatomy; etc.) and for non U-M students who also use U-M anatomical resources. Through the development and production of film we seek to inspire continuous learning for students in the study of anatomy.

Project Achievements:

The inclusion of film within U-M Anatomy curricula has been very successful based on preliminary qualitative feedback from U-M students and from the general public (views of these resources are nearing 1000). Continued assessment of the effectiveness of these resources of utmost important to the project to help guide future development and to improve existing resources.

Continuation:

Yes, we plan to continue developing film resources based on the needs of the curricula and the feedback from students.

Dissemination:

Film is available freely for all U-M students and colleagues currently, as well as to the general public through the BlueLink YouTube channel, which is also linked to the main Anatomy curricular webpage. We will also be presenting qualitative feedback on BlueLink resources, including film at the international Experimental Biology - American Association of Anatomists meetings in April 2019. Further research and presentations are expected to continue.
