What is the Student Advisory Board?
The Student Advisory Board at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) is intended to be a collaborative and inclusive space where undergraduate and graduate students help shape and advance the future of teaching and learning at the University of Michigan. Centering student voices, especially those reflecting a wide range of identities, lived experiences, disciplines, Schools and Colleges, and academic pathways, conversations will focus on the student perspective of learning and teaching at Michigan. Students on the board will generate specific recommendations that make teaching more equitable, inclusive, and student-centered.
Through conversations with fellow students and CRLT staff, students on the board will explore key issues that affect students’ learning experiences, such as belonging and well-being, course policies and workload, and other emerging topics. The board will also consider effective teaching strategies that support diverse learners and shape classroom environments where all students can succeed. By elevating student perspectives, the Student Advisory Board serves as a vital partner in strengthening teaching practices that are grounded in the realities of U-M students’ experiences.
Who can serve on the board?
To be eligible to serve on the board, students must:
- Be currently enrolled and have completed at least two semesters of course work at UM.
- Be able to commit to participating in the following in-person student advisory board sessions, with dinner provided:
- Kick off event: Saturday, October 10, 2026 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 11 2026, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, December 2 2026, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 27 2027, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, February 24 2027, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 24 2027, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 14 2027, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
- Complete and submit the application linked below.
