Embed Climate Change in Courses Retreat, May 31 & June 4, 2024

Have you noticed U-M students’ intense interest in climate change and wanted to find ways to meet that interest through courses you offer (especially in courses that might not directly seem to connect to climate change)? Have you wanted to incorporate climate change into your course but haven’t been able to make the time? Or haven’t been sure whether or where to start? Would you find it helpful to be in conversation with other U-M faculty who plan to incorporate climate change content into their courses?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then apply to participate in the Embed Climate Change in Courses (EC3) Retreat on Friday, May 31 and Tuesday June 4, 2024. Sponsored by LSA Undergraduate Education, the LSA Year of Sustainability, PitE and CRLT, the Embed Climate Change in Courses (EC3) Retreat will bring together faculty from the U-M Ann Arbor campus who would be excited to spend time working and learning with others as they develop course materials (syllabi, content units, assignments, activities) focused on climate change for their undergraduate courses. Program details are below. Participants will be eligible to apply for a $1000 undergraduate course development grant at the conclusion of the retreat. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through May 15 (or until we have reached capacity).

The retreat will be facilitated by Sara Soderstrom (PitE & Organizational Studies) and Deb Meizlish (CRLT). For questions or additional information, please contact Deb Meizlish ([email protected]) at CRLT.

  • What prior participants valued:

    • "The ideas shared and the connections made with colleagues across the university. While our courses may look very different, there are many areas where we overlap and we were able to come up with ideas that we wouldn't have otherwise thought about."

    • "It was great to listen, process, and get inspired by speakers and then develop ideas for my course."

    • "The peer to peer workshopping was fantastic. The framework provided to engage in this activity was very helpful as was the individual time ahead of this."

    • "I very much enjoyed the format and the opportunity to connect with colleagues in a productive space."
