Registration is open to anyone at U-M, but in the event that we have a large number of registrants, we will prioritize attendance for those who are teaching online during Spring 2020. 


Getting Started/Moving Toward: Designing your Online Class

Building on what instructors have experienced during Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT), this workshop will help instructors reflect on and improve on their remote and online instruction. 

This workshop has been designed to be put to immediate use in planning your Spring/Summer courses, and will therefore include some pre-workshop engagement plus next steps for creating your course following the workshop.

Topics include: Building a plan for spring instruction, prioritizing learning outcomes, identifying places for transformation

Building your Learning Community: Creating & Facilitating Collaborative Online Experiences

One frequent concern of instructors is how to connect to students online as well as connecting students to each other online. This workshop will cover ways to create class discussions, group work as well as cultivate social presence in the class.

This workshop has been designed to be put to immediate use in planning your Spring/Summer courses, and will therefore include some pre-workshop engagement plus next steps for creating your course following the workshop.

Topics include: Crafting and facilitating asynchronous discussions, using synchronous sessions wisely, group work as well as cultivate social presence in the class.

Inclusive Teaching in Remote Contexts

  • Reflect on your own goals and practices related to inclusion and equity in your teaching
  • Engage with some key research-based inclusive teaching principles to consider how they might apply in your remote teaching
  • Exchange ideas with colleagues in many disciplines about teaching practices in order to support the deliberate cultivation of inclusive learning environments
