Applying Principles of Transparency in Classroom Discussions

What are the purposes of class discussion in your courses? What do you (or can you) use discussions to help students learn? How do you communicate to students your expectations around their participation in discussion -- and why is it important for equity to make clear to your students what your expectations are?  This interactive session will build upon key research findings about the beneficial effects of transparency for student learning, especially for those students who have been historically underserved by higher education. Participants will reflect upon their use of class discussion and apply principles of transparency to improve equity and inclusion in their practice.
