Trauma-Informed Pedagogy and Healing-Centered Engagement

Students and instructors are re-entering learning spaces with individual and collective traumas that impact their capacity to be present and effective in various ways. If we are not mindful of the ways we are responding or not responding to these realities, we run the risk of generating unhealthy dissonance between the learning spaces we create and our lived experiences, which can impact our ability to see intellectual inquiry as a relevant and responsive tool. This interactive synchronous session will introduce participants to the practice of understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of various types of trauma in the classroom. It will also help participants develop pedagogical practices that are strength based, advance a collective view of healing, and re-center culture as a central feature in well-being. This session will be helpful for instructors who are new to thinking about trauma-informed and healing-centered modalities for teaching and learning spaces.
