An Introduction to Equity-Focused Assessment

Session Format: Remote synchronous (Zoom)

Intended Audience: Faculty, Graduate Students, Postdocs

Session Abstract: How do we make decisions about assessing student learning in our programs and courses? What information do we use to make these decisions? What assumptions do we make about that information and the ways that information is collected? In this interactive synchronous workshop, we will introduce a framework and some principles of equity-focused assessment and provide structured opportunities for instructors to critically examine their assessment routines, at both the course- and program-level. In examining typical routines of assessment, we will discuss processes from data collection to interpretation and reporting, with an eye towards building equity-minded assessment practices in our programs and courses. This session will be helpful for both new and seasoned instructors
