Active Learning in Large Courses

Session Format: In-Person

Intended Audience: Faculty

Facilitator(s): Bethany Morrison

Session Abstract: Engaging all students in active learning can be especially challenging in a lecture hall. Yet, educational research suggests many powerful reasons for incorporating active learning in large classes. This in-person workshop will highlight strategies for utilizing active learning in large courses and will share examples from a diverse set of U-M courses successfully incorporating such approaches. This session will be helpful for those who have not previously taught or taken large courses -- or who haven’t seen models of large courses that include substantial active or interactive elements.
