Facilitating Classroom Discussions With An Equity Lens

Session Format: In-person

Intended Audience: Faculty, Graduate Students

Facilitator(s): Martha Epperson

Session Abstract: Class discussions serve multiple purposes such as helping students process complex content, hearing different perspectives, and providing instructors with feedback on students’ comprehension. However, the ‘how-to’ of participating in and facilitating engaging class discussions is not always intuitive or obvious. In this interactive in-person workshop participants will reflect upon their goals for classroom discussions and apply three core elements of equity-focused teaching to design and facilitate classroom discussions.
