Teaching for Student Retention in Engineering: What Can GSIs Do?

Lunch will be provided.

Extensive research on why students leave engineering suggests that individual instructors can play a key role in supporting and retaining a diverse student body. In this workshop, specific classroom strategies and teaching behaviors that improve student success in engineering will be presented, as will practical advice for GSIs seeking to implement these ideas. Although underrepresented groups may have the most to gain, these strategies are likely to improve student retention and enhance the academic performance of all students.
