Four-Session Training for Diversity and Inclusive Teaching

Co-facilitated by staff from CRLT and The Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR), this four-week seminar allows participants to both learn about and practice a range of effective facilitation strategies for use in U-M's multicultural classrooms. We focus on pedagogical techniques that productively engage student identity and experience in the learning process, as well as balance different voices and views. We will also discuss strategies for managing student resistance and conflict.

At the end of the seminar, participants will have an opportunity to stretch their skills with techniques gained by developing an action plan to improve diversity and inclusion efforts in an area of their choice.  These action plans could include a variety of methods including:

  • brown bag discussions

  • facilitating a workshop on diversity and inclusion

  • presentation of what they learned in the seminar to a community of their choice

  • revising resources to make them more inclusive

  • or an option to propose own ideas

Upon successful completion of the seminar, participants can apply for funds to support the completion of their action plans (e.g. books, lunch, materials and other resources).

Additionally, participants will receive a certificate of training after completing all four sessions, which meet Tuesdays 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. (10/27, 11/03, 11/10, 11/17). By registering below, you will be enrolled in all four sessions.
