Inclusive Teaching @ Michigan Series - Leveraging Group Work and Teams in STEM Courses to Enhance Student Learning

Effective use of teams and group work in the classroom can increase student learning, improve retention of course material, and enhance students’ problem-solving ability. However, it is often difficult to ensure that all students are engaged, included, and successful in teams. How can instructors design group work and team experiences to mitigate team dysfunction and lack of student motivation?  In this session, participants will explore research-based strategies for designing good assignments, planning group formation, developing teamwork skills, and holding groups accountable.
