Facilitating Discussions in the Social Sciences and Humanities

This workshop provides an opportunity for GSIs in the Social Sciences and Humanities to experiment with active learning strategies aimed at improving discussions in the classroom. Strategies include icebreakers, group brainstorming, think-pair-share, round tables, jigsaw discussion, and minute papers. Through a series of individual and group activities, we will identify the attributes of a productive discussion and consider how to select appropriate techniques based on individual course goals, class size, and classroom setup.
