“It Was Just a Moment": Building Resiliently Inclusive Learning Environments (CRLT Players)

In this kickoff session for the Inclusive Teaching @ Michigan series, the CRLT Players use theatre to spark conversation about climate in U-M’s teaching-learning environments. Focusing on the ways seemingly small moments can have large impacts on student learning, this sketch presents reflections from a diversity of students and instructors on interpersonal interactions that threaten to erode students' sense of belonging and academic success on campus. Recognizing that such moments can occur even when we’re firmly committed to inclusive teaching, the workshop will focus on practices that instructors can use to set up environments where such moments have minimal negative impact and can even contribute to learning, for both students and teachers. The session will include time for reflection and exchange about instructors' own teaching practices.

This session is part of the Inclusive Teaching @ Michigan series. Please see the full listing of series events here.
