This interactive workshop explores strategies for individuals to participate in meaningful academic exchanges with colleagues in digital spaces. Through a series of activities, we will consider issues of privacy, copyright, accessibility, and etiquette that arise when working and teaching in these dynamic environments. In part 1, we will discuss the importance of proactively managing your academic identity online through various social media platforms as well as professional websites. In part 2, we will focus on the the specific advantages and challenges of facilitating student engagement in digital spaces. In part 3, we will spend time actively evaluating our own academic identities and considering ways to leverage digital spaces to promote professional development and student learning. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops or tablets to this session.
