This workshop is designed for instructors and GSIs who are working in large multi-section courses. Many large courses involve coordination of multiple faculty members and graduate students who either share ownership of a single course page or individually manage sites for section and discussion/labs. The goal of this workshop is to introduce tools that allow instructors and GSIs to successfully operate a single, coherent course site for their course. We will discuss ways to optimize a homepage, assignments both for the entire course and for individual sections, operating gradebooks, etc. In addition, we will explore options that allow customization of Canvas for individualization of content for sections while still operating a single page across all sections. We will also introduce Canvas add-ons that help facilitate discussion boards, such as Discussion Boards and Piazza, and ways to notify individual sections or groups of sections. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops or tablets to this session.
