Implementing Inclusive Teaching Principles in Your Courses

Each semester, we offer this foundational session as well as workshops on specialized topics in inclusive teaching. This session will be especially useful for faculty who are relatively new to thinking deliberately about inclusive teaching practice, though anyone is welcome to attend. Research on teaching and learning highlights the importance of an explicitly inclusive classroom climate for student learning. This includes the value of learning collaboratively with diverse peers and the benefits of intentionally connecting course content to students’ life experience and goals for the future. How might these ideas inform your regular classroom practice to result in more inclusive learning environments? In this activities-based workshop, faculty will experience and reflect upon teaching strategies for helping students engage and learn across their differences, as well as for introducing course material in ways that productively draw upon students' various backgrounds and perspectives. This workshop is designed for faculty in any discipline.
