Overview of the Project:
Conference presentation and attendance at the 20th International Conference for Knowledge, Technology, and Society in Valencia, Spain, on March 7-8. Presenting course design and research results of a new section of ENGR 100: “Socially-engaged design of nuclear energy technologies.” An E3 Level 2 grant funded the development of this course. This project will directly impact the 85 students I teach in ENGR 100 each year.

Project Objectives:

The primary objective was to attend and present at the 20th International Conference on Knowledge, Technology, and Society so that I could connect with like-minded scholars as a way to develop new and cutting-edge material for the course I co-teach with Aditi Verma (ENGR100 910: Socially engaged design of nuclear energy technologies) and for my other sections of ENGR 100. I was specifically interested in learning more about theory and practice related to teaching and understanding the social implications of new and emerging technologies.

Project Achievements:

My presentation was well-attended and well-received -- I was able to connect with several faculty who were interested in collaborating on future projects related to technology design and community engagement in design. I also attended a variety of presentations at the conference that have given me new material and perspectives to bring into my teaching and related research. These perspectives are primarily related to design and generative AI.

Continuation:
No, the conference is complete
Dissemination:
Some of the presentations and ideas I have already been shared informally on our Tech Comm Slack. I'll plan to share them more formally in a Tech Comm Brown Bag later this semester or early next fall.
