Overview of the Project:
The Instructional Development funds requested in this proposal would make possible the purchase of materials for the Teacher Education course, Teaching with Curriculum Materials (TwCM). The course, which is required for all preservice K-8 teachers in the School of Education, is designed to familiarize future teachers with the range of curriculum materials they will use in their first years in the classroom and to help them effectively plan with and adapt those materials to meet the needs of their contexts and students. We are requesting funds toward the purchase of current K-8 curriculum materials for the class.

Project Objectives:

The objective of the project was to create a library of curriculum materials to support preservice teaching interns as they learn to use and modify curriculum materials.

Project Achievements:

We were able to purchase social studies and science curricula using the CRLT funds. We built a small library of curriculum resources that allowed interns to learn about the various components of curriculum programs and to practice modifying curriculum-based lessons to better meet the needs of their students. Access to the curriculum materials that are currently used in local schools has lent authenticity to our work in the course and helped to prepare interns for their content-area methods courses.

Continuation:
Yes, we continue to use the library and have been able to leverage other resources to continue to make modest purchases of curricula.
Dissemination:
We reported about the project to the Teacher Education Curriculum Design Group and have shared the library's resources with several colleagues in support of their teaching.
